Two incoming Institute of World Politics (IWP) students are the recipients of the prestigious DEJOY\WOS Family Foundation Scholarship.

This scholarship was established at IWP in 2017 thanks to the generosity of Louis DeJoy and Amb. Aldona Woś. Through a $1 million gift, they made possible scholarship funds for IWP students for ten years. The DEJOY\WOS Family Foundation Scholarship provides up to full tuition per semester for recent college graduates who demonstrate significant academic, professional, or personal achievement, as well as a history of leadership and an overall potential to succeed in IWP’s rigorous course of study.

The DEJOY\WOS Family Foundation made a major contribution of $25,000 to the Greensboro Police Foundation. The funds will be used to purchase equipment that help create a safer city for all people.

In the third of a five-year gift funded through the DEJOY\WOS Family Foundation and organized by The Fund for American Studies (TFAS), eight North Carolina students were awarded scholarships to participate in the TFAS Virtual Summer, an interactive online program that connects students across the United States with virtual internships in Washington, D.C. and courses with academic credit provided through George Mason University.

2020 Honorees – Robert J. Brown and Kathy Manning

The DEJOY\WOS Family Foundation continued their support of Junior Achievement of the Triad by sponsoring the 40^th Annual Business Leaders Hall of Fame held January 28, 2020. Junior Achievement of the Triad’s Business Leaders Hall of Fame is an event to recognize and honor the professional accomplishments of visionary businessmen and women who have shaped the Triad’s economic landscape.

The 2020 event inducted Robert J. Brown and Kathy Manning into the Business Leaders Hall of Fame. The annual event has been conducted since 1980 (see High Point Enterprise News Article).

In 2018, Louis DeJoy was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The DEJOY\WOS Family Foundation is a proud sponsor of the Victims of Communism (VOC) Memorial Foundation’s annual Triumph of Liberty Gala Dinner and presentation of the Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom, held at Union Station in Washington, D.C. on November 8, 2019.

The Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom is awarded each year to those individuals and institutions that have demonstrated a life-long commitment to freedom and democracy and opposition to communism and all other forms of tyranny. The 2019 Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom recipient is His Excellency Joachim Gauck, former president of the Federal Republic of Germany (2012-2017).

On November 7, 2019, the White House commemorated the National Day for the Victims of Communism. The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOC) organized a delegation of victims of communism, which included Ambassador Aldona Wos, to meet with President Trump in the Oval Office.

The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation is a non-profit educational organization, authorized by a unanimous Act of Congress in 1993 for the purpose of “educating Americans about the ideology, history and legacy of communism.”

Aldona Wos designated as Honorary Chairs, for the Greensboro Police Foundation’s inaugural signature event, “The Blue Salute.”  The event is held on October 12, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the Proximety Hotel in Greensboro, NC.

The event featured exhibits and demonstrations of cutting-edge police technology and equipment. Guests also enjoyed heavy hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine, cocktails, and live music.

Dr. Aldona Wos, former ambassador to Estonia, moderated a question-and-answer session with Nikki Haley, former South Carolina governor and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.  Nikki Haley was the featured speaker during Elon University’s Fall Convocation in what was the first in the university’s 2019-20 Speaker Series.

Drawing from her experiences growing up a minority in South Carolina, a state she would later lead as governor, Nikki Haley said she learned to focus on the similarities between people, not the differences. It was a lesson she said she would later lean upon as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations as she looked to find common ground while promoting the country’s values and interests.

The DEJOY\WOS Family Foundation is proud to continue its funding to the Patriot Foundation and sponsorship of their 17^th Annual Soldiers Appreciation Dinner, held on September 21, 2019 at the Pinehurst Resort Carolina Hotel in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Corporate and foundation sponsors were honored at the dinner.

Founded in 2003, the Patriot Foundation supports families of servicemen and women killed, wounded, injured, or seriously ill, in the Global War on Terrorism.
